Brief History
The Green Leaf Place was built in 1912 by Henry and Helen (Steckel) Taylor.
The house was sold in 1962 after Helen Taylor passed away to her son-in-law George Kyl. During their time with the house, the Kyl’s made several additions including a large bedroom, his and her baths, and a one-car garage connected to the back of the original kitchen. Over time, these additions have been converted into a handicapped accessible bathroom, laundry room and meeting room.
The Kyl’s sold the house in 1994 to Jarald and Sheryl Roberts, who sold it just 11 years later in 2005 to Gary and Valerie Mishler, the current owners of the house. Since the Gary and Valerie purchased the house it has been under extensive restoration and remodeling, and they are very excited about hosting future guests and showcasing the work done on this beautiful house.
House Information
The home itself has four levels. The Main level has a formal living room and formal dinning room. The dining room is furnished with the original dining table, chairs and buffet (all circa 1912). There is a 1 ½ bath on the same level, a large game/meeting room, as well as a spacious and comfortable sun room for all guests to enjoy.
The exceptional kitchen is where we will be preparing hot breakfast for our guests to enjoy each morning. In the true spirit of honoring his Holland ancestry, George Kyle added Holland tiles and lighting into the kitchen decor. As part of the Mishler’s renovation effort, new replica lighting, shipped directly from Germany, has been added to help carry on the tradition and theme in this room.
The first floor, stair landing and upstairs hall are all quarter sawn oak which has been completely refinished in the Michael’s Cherry Finish. The home has three fireplaces, one in the kitchen along with a small wood stove insert, one in the sunroom as well as one in the living room.
The second floor has 4 bedrooms with 3 baths. Each of the rental rooms have a private bath and decorated in separate and unique ways. The Maids quarters provides an original feature in that it has its own back stairway to the kitchen.
Misc. Facts & Info
The third floor was a Theatre where Mrs. Taylor entertained much community plays back in the early 1900's with its own stage and dressing room.
It is the Mishler’s hope that the wonderful and original carriage house in the back of the house will someday be used as a private honeymoon suite.
